Ravens and wolves are often found in proximity to one another, and ravens often "steal" and store meat from wolf kills. Ravens have thus been called "kleptoparasites," but this interpretation misses a key aspect of the relationship: ravens seem to act as scouts for the wolf packs, flying high above the ground and calling out to the wolves when they find a dead or vulnerable animal. Ravens cannot kill large mammals themselves, and even if they find a dead moose their beaks are not powerful enough to do much more than pick at the surface. Wolves are able to tear into carcasses, giving ravens access to the nutritious viscera.
This relationship leads the wolves to food that the wolves would otherwise miss, and gives the ravens access to food that would otherwise be trapped under thick hide. Ravens' playful teasing of wolves, pulling their tails and seeming to laugh as they fly away, may even be a ploy to keep wolves moving on to their next kill.
A portion of the proceeds from each sale of this design goes to Mission: Wolf, a Colorado-based wolf sanctuary dedicated to public education and reintroduction of wolves to the Rocky Mountains.
